Manila North Cemetery reports zero contraband seizures ahead of Undas

MANILA — Law enforcement officials reported no illegal items, including firearms and bladed weapons, have been seized at Manila North Cemetery in the lead-up to Undas celebrations, suggesting successful security measures at the cemetery ahead of the busy holiday period.

Police Major Philipp Ines, public information officer for the Manila Police District, attributed the zero contraband seizures to the effectiveness of the police department's information dissemination efforts. The announcement comes as thousands of Filipinos are expected to visit cemeteries nationwide to commemorate deceased relatives during the traditional observance.

The Manila Police District has intensified its presence at Manila North Cemetery, one of the city's largest burial grounds, as a precautionary measure during the Undas period. The district's proactive communication strategy appears to have discouraged individuals from attempting to bring prohibited weapons into the cemetery.

Police have maintained heightened security protocols throughout the cemetery to ensure the safety of visitors during the two-day observance. The absence of weapon seizures this year reflects ongoing efforts to maintain order and prevent criminal activities in public gathering spaces during major holidays.
