MANILA — The Manila city government logged 33 new cases of influenza-like illness (ILI) on Monday, according to its Public Information Office, adding to mounting health concerns amid the current rainy season.
The cases bring Manila's cumulative ILI count to 1,203 since the start of the year, based on the latest weekly disease surveillance report. The uptick coincides with persistent habagat, or southwest monsoon, rains that have triggered flooding in several barangays across the city.
Weather-related flooding and moisture from prolonged rainfall typically create conditions favorable for respiratory illnesses. Health authorities have urged residents to maintain proper hygiene, seek immediate medical attention for flu-like symptoms, and follow quarantine protocols if necessary.
