Chief Minister Y Khemchand Singh held discussions with opposition bloc representatives on Tuesday to review Manipur's security landscape in the aftermath of Monday's incident in which three firewood collectors were killed by armed militants at Sunurok hills in Kangpokpi district.
The meeting at the CM Secretariat included state Congress chief Okram Ibobi Singh, Congress Legislative Party leader K Meghachandra Singh, Lok Sabha MP Angomcha Bimol Akoijam, and leaders from various opposition parties. Singh stated that the gathering focused on assessing the overall security situation following what he described as "the tragic killing of three innocent civilians by armed miscreants."
Participating opposition representatives expressed serious concern about the incident and urged Singh to organize an all-political party meeting given the current circumstances in the state. The consultative approach reflects efforts to build consensus among political stakeholders on addressing the security challenges facing Manipur, where ethnic tensions and militant activities have periodically disrupted normalcy.
The three victims, identified as firewood collectors, were shot by the suspected militants in what authorities are investigating as part of ongoing unrest in the region. The incident marks another escalation in the volatile situation that has gripped parts of Manipur since earlier this year.
