Manipur hill districts face decade-long development setback amid connectivity crisis

Development projects in Manipur's hill districts have been set back by approximately a decade due to inadequate connectivity and intermittent blockades of critical highway routes, according to Ram Muivah, a legislator from the Naga People's Front, a coalition partner of the BJP in the northeastern state.

Muivah highlighted how the lack of proper road infrastructure has deterred private investment and disrupted essential services in the region. The repeated closure of major transportation corridors has not only stalled economic initiatives but also exacerbated the existing difficulties faced by local populations.

The connectivity challenges have created a cascading effect on developmental indicators across the hill districts. Investors have largely remained cautious, citing logistical constraints and supply chain vulnerabilities arising from the unpredictable disruptions.

The issue underscores ongoing concerns about regional infrastructure disparities in Manipur, where hill areas have historically lagged in development compared to valley regions. Officials and regional representatives have increasingly called for sustained efforts to improve highway networks and ensure uninterrupted transport connectivity to accelerate economic recovery.
