Manipur police arrest banned outfit member with illegal weapons, drugs

Police in Manipur arrested Letkhothang following an operation that recovered foreign-origin firearms and banned substances from his possession. The suspect confessed to being an active member of the Kuki National Front-Military Council (KNF-MC), an armed group operating under the Suspension of Operation (SoO) framework.

The KNF-MC is among several militant organizations that entered into ceasefire agreements with state and central authorities in recent years. Despite formal truces, law enforcement agencies have continued operations against members allegedly engaged in illegal activities including arms trafficking and drug smuggling.

The recovery of foreign weapons and illicit drugs points to ongoing criminal networks operating within the state, even as ceasefire agreements remain in effect. Authorities have intensified operations across Manipur in recent months to counter such activities and maintain public order amid prevailing tensions.

The arrested individual is currently in police custody for further interrogation. Investigators are examining the source and intended destination of the seized weapons and contraband materials. The case adds to mounting concerns over the use of ceasefire arrangements to mask illicit operations in the northeastern state.
