Manipur valley districts hit by strike over NRC delimitation demand

Normal life came to a standstill in Manipur's valley districts on Tuesday and Wednesday as the Campaign for Just and Free Delimitation (JFD) enforced a two-day strike demanding action on delimitation issues related to the National Register of Citizens (NRC).

The strike impacted commercial activities, transportation, and daily operations across the valley region, with shops remaining closed and movement restricted in several areas. Schools and offices also reported reduced attendance during the strike period.

However, the agitation had negligible impact on Manipur's hill districts, where normal activities continued uninterrupted. The geographical divide in strike participation highlighted the varying levels of concern regarding the delimitation and NRC-related issues across different parts of the state.

The JFD had called the strike to press for fresh delimitation and clarification on issues arising from NRC implementation processes in the state. The organization's move reflects growing concerns among certain sections of Manipur's population regarding administrative boundaries and citizenship documentation matters.
