Manipur violence: Man succumbs to pellet wounds; CRPF personnel hurt in blast

A man has died from injuries sustained by pellets in Manipur's volatile Thoubal district, adding to the toll of violence gripping the northeastern state. The incident underscores the ongoing security challenges facing the region as clashes persist between various groups.

In a separate incident, three Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were injured when suspected militants detonated an explosive device targeting their position. The blast marks another attack on security forces operating in the district as militant groups continue to pose threats to law and order.

Thoubal district magistrate Yumnam Robita responded to the deteriorating security situation by imposing prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code. The restrictions, effective in the revenue villages of Sangaiyumpham and Khangabok, prohibit unauthorized movement of people in and around these areas to prevent further violence and maintain public order.

The twin incidents highlight the precarious security environment in Manipur, where communal tensions have sparked recurring violence since May 2023. Authorities have intensified their presence in sensitive areas as security agencies work to contain the spread of militancy and restore normalcy in affected districts.
