Manufacturers Voice Disappointment Over Lack of Budget Support

Malaysia's manufacturing sector has voiced frustration over perceived insufficient support in the recent government budget allocation, raising concerns about competitiveness and business sustainability in the region.

The Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM) highlighted gaps in financial assistance and incentive measures aimed at supporting local producers, signalling that current support mechanisms fall short of industry expectations during challenging economic conditions.

Beyond budgetary concerns, the FMM has advocated for a market-driven approach to determining minimum wage levels for semi-skilled workers and fresh graduates. The manufacturers' body argues that allowing wage rates to be determined by market forces, rather than through fixed government mandates, would provide businesses greater flexibility in workforce planning and enhance overall competitiveness.

The FMM's position reflects broader industry concerns about balancing labour cost pressures with operational efficiency as manufacturers navigate inflationary pressures and global supply chain uncertainties. The group's recommendations suggest the need for closer dialogue between government policymakers and the private sector to develop support frameworks better aligned with manufacturing sector requirements.
