Marathi film Gondhal selected as India's Oscar entry for 2027

The Film Federation of India has announced that Gondhal, a Marathi-language production, will serve as India's official submission for the Best International Feature Film category at the 2027 Oscars. The selection came after a competitive evaluation of submissions across multiple Indian languages.

A total of 33 films were considered for the prestigious slot. Hindi dominated the submissions with 14 entries, while Marathi, Telugu, and Gujarati each contributed four films to the selection pool. Tamil submissions numbered three, with Malayalam and Nagamese represented by one film each. The roster also included one silent film entry.
