MANILA — President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and Education Secretary Sonny Angara jointly inaugurated the Yakap health caravan at Kawmpang Elementary School in Patikul, Sulu on Tuesday, bringing medical services directly to the island community.
The mobile health program is expected to benefit more than 1,600 individuals, including students, parents, and school personnel from multiple institutions in the area. The caravan also provided services to participants from Martirez Elementary School in neighboring Jolo.
The Yaman ng Kalusugan initiative represents efforts by the national government to extend healthcare access to remote and underserved regions in the Philippines. Such mobile health caravans typically provide basic medical consultations, health screenings, and preventive care services to target communities.
The launch in Sulu underscores the administration's commitment to reaching marginalized areas where access to regular health facilities remains limited. The caravan model allows health workers to deliver services directly to schools and communities rather than requiring residents to travel to urban medical centers.
