Marcos pushes for stronger cybersecurity safeguards in digital commerce

MANILA — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Tuesday renewed calls for robust safeguards to protect digital infrastructure and online transactions, citing escalating cybersecurity risks facing the nation's consumers and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). The appeal was made during the 11th meeting of the Private Sector Advisory Council (PSAC) Digital Infrastructure Sector Group held at Malacañan Palace, according to the Presidential Communications Office. The President emphasized the need for stronger defenses as digital commerce continues to expand across the Philippines, with both individual users and small business operators increasingly vulnerable to online threats. His remarks reflect growing concerns about the security of online payment systems and data protection mechanisms in the country. The government has been engaging with the private sector to develop comprehensive cybersecurity strategies aimed at building consumer confidence in digital transactions and fostering a safer environment for MSME operations in the digital economy.
