President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. sought to clarify the relationship between his administration and the press on Tuesday, saying that disagreements over policy do not constitute adversarial positions between government and media.

Marcos delivered the remarks at Malacañang Palace during the oath-taking ceremony for incoming officers of the Malacañang Media Group, which represents journalists covering presidential affairs. The president emphasized that open dialogue and differing viewpoints are natural components of democratic discourse.

The statement comes amid ongoing discussions about press freedom and media independence in the country. Marcos' comments suggest his administration's position that constructive criticism and editorial independence should be viewed as part of a functioning democracy rather than as opposition to government policies.

The Malacañang Media Group represents accredited journalists who regularly cover presidential activities and government announcements. Their access to the palace and regular briefings remain central to media operations in the capital.
