Marcos to sign 2027 budget before year-end, Palace asserts

Malacañang expressed confidence Monday that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. will approve the proposed P7.2-trillion national budget for 2027 before December 31, seeking to avoid delays that plagued last year's budget passage.

Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said during a briefing that the 2027 national budget is expected to be passed by Congress on schedule, with presidential approval to follow promptly before the calendar year closes.

The assurance marks an effort to prevent a recurrence of previous fiscal delays. Last year, the budget approval process extended beyond the intended timeframe, creating complications for government spending and agency operations early in the fiscal period.

A P7.2-trillion budget represents the administration's spending blueprint for the coming year, covering government operations, infrastructure projects, social programs, and other priority initiatives. The timing of budget approval is critical, as delays can restrict agency operations and delay the release of allocated funds.

The Palace's confidence in meeting the year-end deadline suggests coordination between the executive and legislative branches on the budget's progression. Congressional approval remains the first hurdle before the proposed budget reaches the President's desk for signature.
