MANILA — The Department of Justice formally charged Marikina Representative Marcelino "Marcy" Teodoro with four counts of sexual assault on Tuesday, according to DOJ spokesperson Polo Martinez. The charges stem from allegations made by two female police officers who served as members of the congressman's security team.

The complainants accused Teodoro of acts of lasciviousness in addition to the sexual assault counts. Both officers were stationed with the lawmaker's protective detail when the alleged incidents occurred.

The DOJ's decision to file charges followed an investigation into the complaints submitted by the two policewomen. The formal filing marked a significant development in what had been a matter under departmental review.

Representative Teodoro, who represents the Marikina district in Congress, has not yet issued a public statement regarding the charges. The case will now proceed through the judicial system for further proceedings.
