Marina suspends OceanJet 788 safety certificate after Bohol port incident

MANILA — The Maritime Industry Authority (Marina) has suspended the Passenger Ship Safety Certificate of MV OceanJet 788 after the vessel ran aground at the loading dock of Tagbilaran Port in Bohol last Saturday.

The grounding incident prevented the vessel from continuing operations. Marina's suspension of the ship's safety certification remains in effect until the operator completes a comprehensive safety inspection and the regulatory body determines the vessel meets operational standards.

The incident highlights ongoing concerns about port safety and vessel operations across Philippine waters. Tagbilaran Port serves as a major passenger and cargo hub for the Visayas region, with multiple ferry services operating daily routes to nearby islands.

Marina did not immediately release additional details regarding the cause of the docking mishap or timeline for reinstatement of the vessel's certificate. OceanJet operates a fleet of passenger vessels serving inter-island routes throughout the Philippines.
