Mark your calendars: Ekadashi dates in November 2026

Ekadashi, the eleventh lunar day in the Hindu calendar, holds special spiritual significance for millions of devotees who observe fasts and perform rituals on these dates. November 2026 will feature two important Ekadashi celebrations that are widely observed across India.

Rama Ekadashi, also known as Kartik Krishna Ekadashi, will occur in early November, while Dev Uthani Ekadashi, marking the awakening of Lord Vishnu from his four-month slumber, will fall later in the month. Both dates are considered auspicious for worship, meditation, and charitable activities. Devotees typically fast from sunrise to sunset or maintain partial fasts, depending on their personal practice and regional customs.

Worship rituals and prayers are traditionally performed during the Brahma Muhurta, the early morning hours before sunrise, considered the most spiritually potent time of day. The fasting period concludes during the Parana, the designated time to break the fast, which varies based on the precise astronomical calculations of the lunar calendar. It is customary to break the fast with light, sattvic food items that are easy to digest.

Dev Uthani Ekadashi holds particular importance as it marks the beginning of the wedding season in many parts of India and is believed to be an auspicious time for new beginnings and important decisions. The observance is especially popular in North India, where elaborate celebrations and temple processions often accompany the festival.
