Maruti Suzuki hits 1 million vehicle dispatches via in-plant rail terminals

The country's leading passenger vehicle manufacturer reached the milestone on Friday, leveraging dedicated transportation infrastructure at its Hansalpur manufacturing site in Gujarat and Manesar facility in Haryana. Operations from the Hansalpur in-plant railway siding commenced in March 2023, followed by the Manesar terminal in June 2025.

The in-plant railway terminals have become increasingly central to Maruti's logistics strategy. In the current financial year, these two dedicated sidings have accounted for 70 per cent of the company's total rail-based vehicle dispatches. As of August 31, the automaker's rail-based dispatches have crossed 300,000 units for the year.

The in-plant railway infrastructure eliminates the need for trucks to transport vehicles to distant railway stations before entry into the supply network. By enabling goods to be loaded directly onto freight trains within manufacturing facilities, the terminals reduce transportation costs and environmental impact while streamlining the distribution process.

Maruti Suzuki has set an ambitious medium-term target to increase rail-based vehicle dispatches to 35 per cent of its total shipments by fiscal year 2031, reflecting a broader industry shift towards more sustainable and efficient logistics solutions.
