MAS opens consultation on stablecoin regulation framework

The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) has launched a public consultation on regulatory proposals designed to establish safeguards for stablecoin issuers and enhance consumer protection in the digital assets space.

The consultation period runs until October 16, during which interested parties—including financial institutions, technology firms, consumer groups, and the general public—are invited to provide feedback on the proposed framework.

The MAS proposals aim to address key concerns surrounding stablecoins, including mechanisms to maintain value stability and protections for users holding these digital tokens. The regulatory approach is intended to balance innovation with financial stability and investor safety.

Singapore has positioned itself as a leading hub for digital finance in the region, with MAS implementing tiered regulatory frameworks for cryptocurrency and blockchain activities. These latest proposals represent the next phase in establishing comprehensive oversight of stablecoin markets, which have grown significantly as institutional and retail adoption increases.

Feedback received during the consultation will inform the development of final regulations, with MAS expected to publish a response to submissions following the October 16 deadline.
