The secretary of the Mahalanobis Institute of Social Studies and Cultural Affairs (MassArt) was taken into custody by Kolkata Police on Friday as investigations into the Durga Puja ticket fraud widened. Police sources indicated the arrest was made following interrogations that revealed the accused's alleged involvement in the unauthorized sale and distribution of festival event tickets.
This latest development comes a week after former Trinamool Congress era minister Indranil Sen was arrested by the same police unit in connection with the ticketing scandal. Investigators have suggested the case involves a coordinated network of individuals allegedly profiting from the unauthorized sale of tickets to premium Durga Puja pandal events across Kolkata.
The Durga Puja ticket scam has drawn significant attention from city authorities as the festival represents one of Bengal's most important cultural events. Police have indicated that further arrests may follow as the investigation progresses and additional leads are pursued. Officials have urged the public to purchase tickets only through authorized channels to avoid falling victim to fraud schemes.
The exact financial scale of the alleged scam and the number of unauthorized tickets sold remain subjects of ongoing investigation. Kolkata Police have assured stakeholders that all individuals involved in the fraudulent scheme will face prosecution under relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code.
