DAVAO CITY — Firefighters responded to a major residential fire that swept through a residential area in Carpenter, Purok Corias, Barangay Leon Garcia in Agdao District on Thursday afternoon, leaving approximately 1,000 families displaced.

According to Fire Inspector Frances Marie Sendrijas, the fire was first reported at 5:06 p.m. The situation rapidly escalated, prompting authorities to raise the alarm status to second alarm just seven minutes later at 5:13 p.m., indicating the intensity and spread of the blaze across the community.

The exact cause of the fire and the extent of property damage remained under investigation. Authorities worked to establish temporary shelters and coordinate relief assistance for the displaced families affected by the disaster.

The incident underscores the ongoing fire risks in densely populated residential areas of Davao City, where informal settlements and closely-spaced structures can facilitate rapid fire spread.
