Massive fraud scheme using SD Pay app dupes over 6.5 lakh Indians

Authorities in Amreli district, Gujarat, have busted a large-scale financial fraud operation centred on the SD Pay mobile application, marking one of the larger digital payment scams to surface in recent months. The scheme has affected over 6.52 lakh individuals across the country who were lured with promises of returns and easy money through the fraudulent app.

Investigations revealed that perpetrators used the SD Pay application as a front to systematically siphon off approximately Rs 1,211 crore from unsuspecting users. The scam operated by attracting victims through aggressive marketing and unrealistic promises of quick profits, a tactic commonly employed in digital fraud schemes targeting middle-class Indians seeking alternative income sources.

Local law enforcement agencies have made twelve arrests related to the case so far, though investigations are ongoing to identify additional suspects and trace the flow of defrauded funds. Police are also working to recover digital evidence and financial records that could lead to the apprehension of other members of the criminal network allegedly operating the scheme.

The case highlights growing concerns about the misuse of mobile payment applications and digital platforms for perpetrating financial crimes. Authorities have urged citizens to exercise caution when downloading financial apps and to verify the authenticity of payment platforms through official channels before making any transactions or investments.
