Massive steel arch for Saigon River bridge loaded onto barge

In the early morning hours of October 16, heavy-duty transporters completed the delicate task of loading the iconic steel arch onto a barge measuring roughly twice the size of a standard football pitch. The palm leaf-shaped span represents a key structural component of the upcoming pedestrian bridge crossing the Saigon River.

The operation, executed with precision during the pre-dawn hours, marks a significant milestone in the bridge's construction timeline. Engineers coordinated the movement of the massive steel element onto the specially-prepared barge, which will serve as the primary vessel for the sea crossing.

Once preparations are complete, the barge is scheduled to depart Vung Tau and traverse the coastal route toward Ho Chi Minh City's Bach Dang wharf, where the steel arch will be offloaded for final installation. The bridge project has drawn attention for its distinctive architectural design, which incorporates traditional Vietnamese aesthetic elements into a modern engineering framework.

The pedestrian bridge is expected to enhance connectivity across the Saigon River and provide residents with an additional crossing point in a key urban area.
