Mayon evacuees receive cash assistance as volcanic threat continues

LEGAZPI CITY — Approximately 600 evacuees from five barangays in Camalig town have received P5,005 each under the government's cash-for-work assistance program, according to local authorities in Albay province. The payments were distributed after residents completed 11 days of community labor, including cleanup drives and debris removal activities in their areas.

The cash assistance represents part of the government's relief efforts for families displaced by ongoing volcanic activity at Mount Mayon. The volcano has remained under alert level 3, indicating moderate unrest with increased seismic activity and gas emissions.

The work-for-cash program serves dual purposes by providing immediate financial relief to displaced residents while facilitating community recovery and cleanup operations. Local officials have indicated the assistance program may continue as evacuation orders remain in effect for communities around the volcano.

Mayon, one of the Philippines' most active volcanoes, is located in Albay province in the Bicol Region. Authorities continue to monitor volcanic activity and have maintained evacuation protocols for communities within danger zones.
