Mayon Volcano Emits Fresh Ash; Alert Level Remains at 2

MANILA — Mayon Volcano produced a new ash emission Friday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported. The volcanic activity occurred at 9:08 a.m., generating a grayish plume that rose approximately 150 meters above the crater before drifting toward the east-northeast.

The ash discharge marks the latest in a series of emissions from the active volcano, which has been under close observation by state seismologists. Phivolcs continues to monitor conditions at the volcano in real-time through its network of seismic and ground deformation monitoring instruments.

Despite the fresh activity, Phivolcs maintained Mayon at Alert Level 2, indicating increased unrest with magma movement beneath the volcano but without immediate threat of eruption. The alert level system guides authorities in implementing precautionary measures and evacuation protocols if conditions warrant escalation.

Residents in communities surrounding the volcano have been advised to remain alert and heed all advisories from disaster management officials. Civil aviation authorities continue to monitor airspace restrictions related to potential volcanic ash dispersal.
