MBA and MCA candidates demand separate counselling phase in ICET

Candidates preparing for MBA and MCA programmes through the Integrated Common Entrance Test (ICET) have formally requested state education authorities to establish a separate counselling phase exclusively for postgraduate admissions.

The aspirants argue that a dedicated counselling window would allow them to receive focused attention during the seat allocation process and ensure that their specific academic and professional needs are properly addressed. Currently, postgraduate candidates are processed alongside other categories in the general counselling schedule, which they contend creates logistical challenges and delays in finalisation of admissions.

Representatives from student groups have submitted petitions highlighting that a specialised phase would improve transparency in the selection procedure and provide clearer timelines for MBA and MCA admissions. They emphasise that such segregation would enable authorities to better manage the distinct eligibility criteria and qualification benchmarks required for postgraduate programmes.

Education officials have indicated they are reviewing the feasibility of implementing a separate counselling schedule. The authorities are expected to announce their decision following consultations with relevant academic bodies and examination commissions involved in managing ICET admissions.
