MCA, MIC credit increased Chinese, Indian voter support in recent polls

KUALA LUMPUR — The Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA) and Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) have been credited with mobilising increased support from their respective communities during recent state elections, according to UMNO's political secretary Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki.
Ashyraf highlighted voting patterns in the recent Johor and Negeri Sembilan state elections as proof of improved community backing for the parties compared to previous electoral contests.
The remarks underline the continued significance of MCA and MIC within the broader Barisan Nasional coalition, as these component parties seek to demonstrate their relevance in mobilising support among non-Malay voters across Malaysia's diverse electorate.
The BN coalition has increasingly relied on its multi-ethnic structure to broaden its electoral appeal following electoral setbacks in recent years. The performance of MCA and MIC in reaching out to their traditional voter bases remains a key metric for assessing the coalition's overall competitiveness heading into future elections.
