KUALA LUMPUR — The Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA) will field candidates in three constituencies in Melaka in the upcoming state elections, with the party receiving Bandar Hilir as an additional seat allocation, according to party president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.
The decision to award MCA a third seat represents an expansion of the party's representation in the state assembly elections. Wee confirmed the allocation during a statement in the capital on Monday, signalling the coalition's confidence in the party's electoral prospects in the key southern state.
Melaka has historically been a competitive political battleground, with multiple parties vying for control of the state government. The seat allocation underscores the strategic importance of the state in the broader political calculations of the ruling coalition.
The announcement comes as political parties continue preparing their candidate lists and campaign strategies ahead of the state elections. MCA's expanded slate is expected to strengthen the coalition's organisational presence across Melaka's constituencies.
