MCMC backs police in child exploitation crackdown, 53 arrested

PUTRAJAYA — The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has thrown its support behind a police operation targeting child exploitation, which resulted in the arrest of 53 suspects including eight teenagers. The operation, dubbed Op Pedo, reflects intensified efforts by Malaysian authorities to crack down on offences related to the sexual abuse and exploitation of children. The collaboration between MCMC and law enforcement agencies highlights the growing coordination between regulatory bodies and police in tackling crimes perpetrated through digital platforms. Among those detained, the eight minors arrested are believed to have been involved in facilitating or participating in child exploitation activities. The remaining 45 adult suspects face investigation for various offences related to child abuse material and the sexual exploitation of minors.
