KOTA KINABALU — The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has substantially upgraded internet infrastructure at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) through the installation of approximately 1,010 new Wi-Fi access points. The expansion aims to strengthen digital connectivity and support the university's educational mission across its sprawling Kota Kinabalu campus. The initiative represents a significant investment in improving network coverage for students, faculty, and staff engaged in teaching, research, and administrative activities. MCMC undertook the project to ensure equitable access to reliable broadband services, addressing connectivity gaps that previously existed on the campus grounds. The enhanced Wi-Fi infrastructure is expected to facilitate remote learning capabilities, support digital collaboration among researchers, and enable seamless access to online educational resources and university services. The deployment reflects broader government efforts to narrow the digital divide in Malaysia and ensure that educational institutions are adequately equipped with modern telecommunications infrastructure. University officials have welcomed the expansion, noting that improved connectivity will enhance the overall academic experience and position UMS more competitively in the digital economy.
