Multi Commodity Exchange of India (MCX) posted a consolidated net profit of ₹455 crore for the second quarter of FY27, more than doubling its year-ago earnings of ₹197.47 crore, according to regulatory disclosures. The strong performance was underpinned by a significant expansion in total income, which surged to ₹799.66 crore from ₹374.23 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous fiscal year.
Trading volumes across commodity derivatives registered substantial growth during the quarter. Average Daily Turnover (ADT) in futures contracts climbed to ₹62,819 crore, while options ADT reached ₹12,00,129 crore. The exchange also facilitated physical deliveries of 5.68 tonnes of gold, 199.91 tonnes of silver and 34,707 tonnes of base metals, reflecting active participation across precious and industrial metals segments.
Operating expenses rose to ₹211.36 crore from ₹150.41 crore year-on-year, though the increase was proportionate to the higher revenue base. Praveena Rai, MD and CEO of MCX, attributed the robust quarterly results to sustained confidence among market participants and the exchange's growing prominence within India's commodity derivatives ecosystem.
The results underscore growing investor interest in commodity hedging instruments amid volatile global commodity markets and domestic inflation concerns. MCX's performance reflects the broader expansion of India's derivatives market, which has seen increasing participation from institutional and retail traders seeking exposure to commodity price movements.
