Media stocks came under sustained selling pressure during Monday's intra-day trade, with the Nifty Media index declining 4.5% as investors reassessed valuations across the sector. Zee Entertainment and Network18 emerged as the hardest hit, with both companies recording losses of up to 14%, signalling deep concerns among market participants about the entertainment and media landscape.
Sun TV Network slid to a new 52-week low of ₹458.60, representing a 3.3% decline from previous levels. The Chennai-based broadcaster's fresh lows underscored broader weakness in the television and content distribution space. Alongside the major players, mid-cap entertainment firms also registered notable losses.
Saregama India and Prime Focus Technologies declined 4% and 3%, respectively, extending the selloff across companies with varying exposure to music, content creation, and digital platforms. The broad-based nature of the decline suggested sector-wide headwinds rather than isolated company-specific concerns.
The media sector rout reflects investor caution amid a challenging advertising environment and evolving consumption patterns in Indian media. The extent of Monday's losses indicated that key stakeholders remained cautious about near-term earnings prospects and growth visibility within the entertainment industry.
