Medical officers in Sabah, Sarawak report for duty at higher rates

Health Minister Dzulkefly Ahmad announced on Monday that medical officers across Sabah and Sarawak have largely reported for duty, with attendance rates reaching approximately 63 percent in both states.

In Sarawak, 337 out of 527 medical officers returned to work, while in Sabah, 336 out of 528 officers reported for duty, according to the minister's statement. The figures indicate that a substantial majority of medical personnel in the two eastern Malaysian states have resumed their positions.

The development comes as the health ministry continues to monitor workforce attendance across its regional facilities. Both Sabah and Sarawak, which are among Malaysia's most geographically dispersed states, rely heavily on their medical workforce to deliver healthcare services to remote and urban populations alike.

The Health Ministry has not released details regarding the reasons for the previous absences or the timeline for achieving full attendance across both states. Officials are expected to provide further updates on workforce deployment and service continuity in the coming weeks.
