Meerut Domestic Worker Accused of Drugging Employer's Mother, Fleeing with Jewelry

Authorities in Meerut have registered a case following the alleged theft of jewelry valued at several lakhs of rupees from the residence of sports businessman Ashutosh Bhalla in the city's Defense Colony. According to the complaint, a domestic employee named Roshni, who had worked at the household for approximately one year, is suspected of drugging Bhalla's mother, Rekha Bhalla, by mixing sedative pills into her tea before absconding with the valuables. The incident came to light when the elderly woman was found unconscious and family members discovered the theft. Rekha Bhalla was later treated for the effects of the medication. Police have formed four teams to track down the suspect and have intensified search operations across the region. Investigators are examining CCTV footage from the locality and coordinating with neighboring jurisdictions to locate the accused domestic worker. The case highlights recurring concerns about the vetting and monitoring of domestic staff in residential colonies across northern India.
