Meerut jail inmates prepare festive cheer as Diwali celebrations take shape

Inmates at Meerut District Jail are channeling festive spirit into creative pursuits as the facility gears up for Diwali celebrations. Female prisoners including Muskan and Ravita are actively engaged in crafting oil lamps and candles, alongside decorative garlands that will adorn the jail premises during the festival.

The jail's bakery operations have shifted into high gear to support the Diwali festivities. Prison authorities have authorized the production of traditional Indian sweets including nankhatai, an almond-based shortbread cookie popular across North India. Bakery staff are simultaneously preparing over 30 varieties of biscuits to supplement the festive offerings.

The initiative reflects efforts by prison management to maintain morale and provide meaningful activities for incarcerated individuals during major festivals. Such programs have been incorporated into jail management practices across several Indian correctional facilities, offering inmates opportunities for productive engagement while preparing communal celebrations.

The preparations underscore how Indian prisons continue adapting their operational frameworks to acknowledge cultural and religious observances while maintaining institutional security and discipline.
