Meituan, China's leading food delivery and services platform, has moved to quash viral claims suggesting it sent a delivery rider to Singapore to purchase curry puffs, stating definitively that it does not offer cross-border logistics services.
The company's denial comes after online speculation circulated about the alleged cross-border delivery. According to reports, Meituan clarified its operational scope, emphasising that such international courier arrangements fall outside its service offerings.
"We do not offer cross-border food delivery or errand services," the platform stated in response to the claims. The statement underscores the company's focus on domestic delivery operations within China, where it maintains its core business model.
The incident highlights the widespread curiosity around the capabilities of Asia's major delivery platforms and their expanding service portfolios. While companies like Meituan have diversified into various sectors including groceries, flowers, and local services, international delivery remains largely outside their standard operations.
Meituan continues to dominate China's food delivery and services market, though the company faces ongoing regulatory scrutiny and competition in its core markets.
