Melaka Barisan Nasional chief Ab Rauf Yusoh announced on Tuesday that Rais Yasin will represent the coalition in the Sungai Udang seat, describing the current Paya Rumput assemblyman as the strongest candidate available.
The decision reflects BN's confidence in Yasin's ability to retain the constituency, which has been a key battleground in recent state-level political contests. Ab Rauf cited Yasin's track record and standing in the community as decisive factors in the selection process.
The announcement comes as political parties across Malaysia prepare for upcoming electoral contests. Sungai Udang has emerged as a closely watched seat given shifting voter preferences in the state capital region and demographic changes within the constituency.
Rais Yasin's nomination underscores BN's strategy to leverage experienced state-level assemblymen in competitive seats. His experience as Paya Rumput representative is expected to provide advantages in engaging voters and mobilizing grassroots support for the coalition's broader campaign objectives in Melaka.
