MELAKA — Pakatan Harapan (PH) has pushed back against detractors who have characterised the 16th Melaka State Election as an unnecessary expenditure of government funds, contending instead that the electoral exercise remains a vital expression of democratic principle. According to PH representatives, the election provides citizens with their constitutional right to participate in the political process and determine their state's direction through the ballot. The coalition has framed the electoral costs as an investment in democratic governance rather than fiscal wastage, emphasising that the public's right to vote supersedes budgetary concerns. PH maintains that regular and transparent electoral processes are essential to maintaining confidence in democratic institutions and ensure accountability among elected representatives. The state election, scheduled for November, comes as Malaysia continues to navigate post-pandemic governance challenges and evolving political dynamics in one of the country's key states.
