Melaka has launched its state election machinery with the opening of 28 nomination centres across the state, marking the official start of the candidacy registration phase for the snap poll. The move comes as the state electoral process gears up following the dissolution of the previous assembly. A total of 687,697 eligible voters are registered to participate in the election, giving the state's political parties and independent candidates the opportunity to field their representatives. The nomination period allows prospective candidates to formally register their intention to contest seats in the state assembly. Political parties and independent candidates must complete their registration within the designated timeframe to ensure their names appear on the ballot paper. The election commission has established the 28 centres strategically across Melaka's constituencies to facilitate the nomination process and ensure accessibility for all intending candidates. With nearly 688,000 voters eligible to participate, the election is expected to draw significant political activity and campaigning across the state in the coming weeks.
