Meta has announced an expansion of its artificial intelligence capabilities aimed at identifying and removing child sexual abuse material (CSAM) from its platforms. The company said the upgraded systems were developed after researchers discovered that bad actors are increasingly adopting new methods to circumvent existing detection mechanisms.

The tech firm has been under mounting pressure from regulators and child safety advocates across multiple jurisdictions to strengthen its content moderation protocols. Recent investigations have highlighted gaps in Meta's ability to detect sophisticated attempts by offenders to distribute illegal material through its services.

The enhanced AI tools will work in tandem with human review teams to identify prohibited content more effectively. Meta stated that the measures represent a significant investment in technological infrastructure dedicated to child protection, with the company committing additional resources to maintain pace with evolving abuse tactics.

The announcement comes as regulators worldwide intensify oversight of social media platforms' handling of child exploitation material. India's regulatory bodies, among others, have previously flagged concerns about the adequacy of content moderation standards. Meta emphasized that child safety remains a priority and that it will continue collaborating with law enforcement agencies and industry partners to combat online exploitation.
