Meta launches AI agent 'Muse' to automate daily tasks for users

Meta, the parent company of Instagram and Facebook, unveiled its new AI-powered assistant on Tuesday, positioning it as a productivity tool for personal and professional task management. Muse operates through a dedicated mobile application and is also accessible via WhatsApp, allowing users to interact with the agent through messaging interfaces.

The company has emphasised robust privacy and security measures as central features of the offering. According to Meta, Muse runs on an isolated, secure virtual machine that keeps both the agent and user data separate, addressing privacy concerns common to AI tools. The architecture reflects Meta's effort to build user confidence in the technology ahead of wider rollout.

Capable of handling both routine and complex tasks, Muse can send emails, book travel arrangements, and manage administrative work. For longer-term objectives, the agent can develop personalised plans such as yearlong fitness regimens or business startup frameworks. Once a user shares a goal, Muse creates a structured plan, manages time and resources, and independently advances progress by opening browsers, completing forms, and negotiating on the user's behalf.

The limited initial availability in the US marks Meta's cautious approach to deploying autonomous AI agents. The company has not announced expansion timelines or plans for availability in other markets, including South Asia, where such tools could potentially see significant adoption among tech-savvy users managing complex schedules and entrepreneurial ventures.
