Metro Manila's Public Safety Patrol documented widespread flooding across numerous areas by 7:23 a.m. Wednesday, with water levels reaching gutter depth in several barangays throughout the metropolis. The flooding was attributed to the intensifying habagat system, which brought sustained heavy rains overnight and into the early morning hours.
The southwest monsoon continues to pose challenges to transportation and mobility across the sprawling capital region. Residents in affected barangays faced difficult conditions during the morning rush, with many streets rendered difficult or impassable by accumulated floodwaters.
Local government units coordinated response efforts to address the flooding situation and assist affected communities. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) had previously warned of the habagat's intensification, prompting authorities to place communities on alert and prepare contingency measures.
The flooding prompted suspension of classes in several areas Wednesday as local officials prioritized public safety. Metro Manila residents are advised to monitor weather updates and avoid flooded areas as the monsoon system persists.
