Metro Manila hospitals brace for surge in emergency cases during Undas period

Hospitals and emergency response teams across Metro Manila will operate under Code White Alert status throughout the Undas holiday weekend to manage anticipated increases in patient admissions. The Department of Health-Metro Manila Center for Health Development (DOH-MMCHD) implemented the alert protocol to ensure adequate preparedness and resource allocation across the region's medical facilities.
The three-day alert period, spanning October 31 through November 2, coincides with peak travel and increased public activity as families visit cemeteries and gather for traditional Undas observances. Health authorities have identified this period as historically experiencing higher rates of medical emergencies, accidents, and injuries requiring immediate hospital intervention.
Code White Alert designation requires participating hospitals to strengthen their emergency response capabilities, ensure adequate staffing levels, and maintain elevated supply stocks of critical medical materials. The protocol also facilitates improved coordination among emergency teams and health facilities to streamline patient care and reduce response times.
The DOH-MMCHD urges the public to exercise caution during holiday travel, practice road safety, and avoid overexertion during cemetery visits, particularly among elderly family members. Health officials recommend that those with pre-existing medical conditions carry necessary medications and maintain regular contact with their healthcare providers during the extended holiday period.
