Metro Manila hospitals placed on high alert for Undas holiday surge

Metro Manila's hospital system will operate under heightened alert status over the Undas holiday period as the Department of Health prepares for a surge in patient admissions. The code white alert, effective from October 31 through November 2, will activate emergency protocols across all major healthcare facilities in the region.

The Department of Health-Metro Manila Center for Health Development initiated the alert to ensure adequate staffing, resources, and bed capacity to manage the anticipated influx of patients seeking immediate medical attention. The Undas period traditionally sees increased hospital visits due to road accidents, injuries sustained during cemetery visits, and other holiday-related health emergencies.

Hospitals throughout Metro Manila have been instructed to prepare contingency plans, mobilize additional medical personnel, and ensure adequate supplies of emergency equipment and medications. The alert status requires facilities to maintain heightened readiness to rapidly respond to critical cases and manage patient flow efficiently during the peak holiday period.

Emergency response teams have also been positioned throughout the region to provide rapid assistance and transport patients to nearby medical facilities. Health officials urged the public to exercise caution during the Undas break and to seek immediate medical attention for any health concerns rather than waiting until after the holiday period.
