Metro Manila, Luzon areas warned of intense rainfall from monsoon

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) placed Metro Manila and other parts of Luzon under red rainfall warning Sunday afternoon as the southwest monsoon, locally known as habagat, strengthened over the archipelago.
The warning was issued at 12:10 p.m., signaling the highest alert level for rainfall in the affected areas. Red warnings indicate the most intense precipitation levels and pose significant flood risks to residents and infrastructure.
A low-pressure area in the region has developed into Tropical Depression Pilandok, adding to the threat posed by the prevailing monsoon system. The combination of these weather systems is expected to bring substantial rainfall across affected provinces.
Residents in affected areas are urged to exercise caution and monitor weather updates from PAGASA as conditions are expected to persist. Local government units have been advised to prepare for possible flooding and landslides in vulnerable communities.
