MANILA — The Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Environmental Management Bureau has issued guidance to Metro Manila residents as haze from Indonesian fires continues to degrade air quality throughout the National Capital Region.
Data collected by DENR-EMB monitors at 6 a.m. indicated that several areas across Metro Manila were recording elevated pollution levels linked to transboundary smoke originating from Kalimantan. The haze, carried across the region by prevailing winds, has prompted health warnings for vulnerable populations.
Authorities are recommending that residents limit outdoor activities, use appropriate respiratory protection when venturing outside, and monitor air quality updates regularly. Children, elderly individuals, and persons with respiratory conditions are particularly advised to exercise caution.
