Metro Manila wage hike awaits final approval from national commission

A new wage increase for Metro Manila workers is in the final stages of approval, with the National Wages and Productivity Commission (NWPC) set to make a decision on the proposal, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) said Tuesday.
The Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) for the National Capital Region has completed its work on the wage order, according to DOLE officials who briefed lawmakers during a House of Representatives committee on appropriations hearing.
The agency did not specify the amount of the proposed wage increase or provide a timeline for the NWPC's decision. The commission typically reviews wage orders from regional boards before they are formally implemented.
The wage adjustment would apply to private sector workers in Metro Manila, where the cost of living remains a concern for labor groups seeking better compensation for employees. The last significant wage increase in the region was granted in 2018.
