The chairman of Metrocon has stepped down following charges connected to an unlicensed worker dormitory that was uncovered in January. The resignation comes after the board of directors was formally notified of the investigation and charges on 29 October, several months after the discovery.
The dormitory facility, which housed workers without proper licensing authorisation, had been identified during routine inspections earlier in the year. However, the board maintained it was kept in the dark about both the investigation and subsequent charges until the notification late last month.
The discovery highlights ongoing concerns about labour practices and worker accommodation standards in the construction sector. Authorities have been intensifying scrutiny on unlicensed dormitories and workplace compliance across the region.
Metrocon's board is expected to announce a successor to the resigned chairman in the coming weeks as the company moves to address the matter and strengthen its internal oversight procedures.
