MG Motor eyes fresh capital push ahead of ambitious growth plans

MG Motor India is exploring fresh capital infusion from its key shareholders JSW and SAIC as the automaker maps out an aggressive growth strategy. The move comes as the company targets sales of 100,000 units in calendar year 2026, marking a significant expansion from current volumes.

Parth Jindal, a senior figure in the company's stakeholder group, highlighted the substantial unutilized capacity at the Halol manufacturing facility in Gujarat. The plant can be scaled to produce up to 400,000 units annually, providing the infrastructure backbone for the company's expansion ambitions.

The capital discussions underscore MG Motor's confidence in the Indian automotive market and its strategic positioning in the segment. The company is simultaneously broadening its new-energy vehicle portfolio, capitalizing on growing consumer demand for electric and alternative-fuel options in India.

With operations spanning multiple segments and geographic markets, MG Motor's expansion plans signal renewed momentum in the competitive Indian passenger vehicle sector. The targeted sales figure for 2026 would represent a substantial jump from current performance levels, contingent on successful capital deployment and market reception of new model launches.
