MIC Youth Wing Calls for Three Major Education System Reforms

The Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) Youth Wing has outlined three priority areas for education system reform, seeking government intervention on matriculation entry standards and pre-university programme alignment.

The youth wing has called for a comprehensive review of the automatic 10A requirement for matriculation admission, arguing that the current threshold may disadvantage qualified students. The group contends that entry criteria should be reassessed to ensure equitable access to the matriculation pathway, which serves as a primary route to tertiary education in Malaysia.

Additionally, the MIC Youth Wing has pressed for harmonisation of various pre-university routes, including matriculation, A-levels, and diploma programmes. Officials noted that inconsistencies across different educational pathways create confusion for students and parents navigating the transition to higher education.

The third reform priority concerns clarification of the government's position on Moral Education reforms. The youth wing has sought explicit communication regarding the implementation status and direction of changes to moral education curricula, citing uncertainty among educational stakeholders.

The MIC Youth Wing's advocacy reflects broader concerns within the Indian Malaysian community regarding educational access and curriculum standards. These reform proposals are expected to be presented to relevant education authorities for consideration.
