Michelin Guide expands to Phu Quoc with Vietnam's fourth destination

The Michelin Guide's expansion to Phu Quoc marks a significant milestone for Vietnam's culinary recognition on the international stage. Following assessments of dining establishments in the capital, the largest metropolis and the central coastal city, the island destination will now undergo the same rigorous evaluation process that determines star rankings for restaurants across the region.

Michelin's inspectors will assess Phu Quoc's food scene across multiple visits using the guide's established criteria for awarding one, two or three stars. The evaluation process, which began in the three previously covered cities, has become a benchmark for culinary excellence in Vietnam and drives both tourism and culinary innovation in competing destinations.

The timing of Phu Quoc's inclusion in the Michelin Guide coincides with the island's broader development as a destination ahead of Vietnam's hosting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in 2027. Infrastructure projects, including airport expansion and enhanced transportation networks, are underway to support increased visitor numbers and economic activity.

While specific restaurants have not yet been identified as likely contenders for Michelin recognition, the island's growing reputation as a gastronomic destination—coupled with increased investment in hospitality and food service—suggests several establishments may meet the guide's standards for acknowledgement. The announcement of Phu Quoc's inclusion in the Michelin Guide Vietnam 2027 is expected in the middle of next year.
